Q

Why do plants need glucose (what are the uses)

A

respiration - transfers energy from glucose to other substance
Making cellulose - this is for plant walls
making amino acids; glucose + nitrate ions = amino acids

6
Q

why do plants need light

A

Light is the energy, as the light level increases so do the photosynthesis rate. it only goes up to a certain point then it just stays the same.

Q

what does CO2 do to photosynthesis

A

CO2 is needed for photosynthesis. as the light intensifies so does the rate of photosynthesis. only goes up to a certain point.

Q

why do plants need temperature

A

The right temperature is needed for photosynthesis. Enzymes need a warm temperature to work. if above 45 degrees then denatured.

examples of metabolism

A

lots of small glucose molecules are joined together to make starch
Excess protein is broken down to produce urea that is used for piss

constantly through plants and animals
happen in mitochondria

Q

what is Anaerobic respiration (when is it used, how useful is it)

A

This is used when there is not enough oxygen
This is an incomplete breakdown of glucose making lactic acid
anaerobic respiration does not transfer as much energy as aerobic respiration
only for emergencies

Q

what is Oxygen debt (what makes it happen, what is it needed for, what is needed to break it down)

A

Anaerobic respiration leads to an oxygen debt
it is the amount of extra oxygen your body needs to react with the build-up of lactic acid
oxygen reacts with lactic acid, forms CO2 + water

17
Q

How to deal with lactic acid

A

the blood that enters your muscle transport the lactic acid to your liver to convert to glucose
