Is to create a legacy of increased income and employment and decrease poverty and deprivation

- Improvements to the living environment
What is the negatives to regeneration?
Success can be subjective and not benefit everyone
What measures can be used to measure economic deprivation and its pros and cons
Measure: income depriavtion, employment depriavtion, poverty
Pros: date is quantitative so it can’t be biased or based on option, easily comparable
Cons: need the social and environmental data to compare, could be outdated
What measures can be used to measure social deprivation and the pros and cons of this
Measures: reduction in inequality, life expectancy, health deprivation
Pros: covers a broad range of issues, adds context to data, can be used to target areas in need
Cons: it is based on opinion and qualitative, subjective
What measure can be used for environmental deprivation and what are the pros and cons
Measures: access to free open space, air quality, quality of hosuing
Pros: adds context to social and economic data, easy to see where regeneration is needed
Cons: access to indoor data is difficult to get, busy areas are affected more by pollution

Why is there a need for regeneration in Barking and Dagenham?
There was a need for regeneration because in the 60s there high employment with 40,000 people in Dagenham by Ford and people got better housing. However there was large scale industrialisation in 2002 when Ford ended car assembly at Dagenham. Many lost jobs
