Topic 4: Multimedia and Media Types Flashcards
Multimedia is the
integration of multiple forms of media in a website or presentation
Multimedia software is software that includes
text, graphics, sound and video
Once a multimedia application is created it should be tested for;
correct links, correction navigation structure and correct match to agreed interface design
The three factors affecting file size and quality are:
resolution, colour depth and sampling rate
Resolution is the number of
pixels in an image or video frame
Colour depth is the number of
bits to store colour of pixel in image or video frame
Sampling rate is the number of times per second a
sound sample is taken when recording using a microphone.
Compression is needed if a
file becomes too large, they may cause stroage issues or take too long to send over a network
For text the two standard file formats are:
TXT and RTF
The TXT file format stores only information about
characters.
TXT is very simple so
it is accepted by virtually all computer systems and does not take up as much space on a hard disk.
RTF stands for
Rich Text Format, and stores text but this time it also stores font, size and colour or style.
RTF files sizes are
larger and take longer to send over a network.
BMP stands for and is
Bitmap image and is an uncompressed file format with data being stored about each pixel in an image
JPEG stands for and is
Joint Pictures Expert Group and one pixel needs 3 bytes of storage.
