this is a non-invasive procedure or method of assessing the fetal presentation, position and attitude. this is technique is required to locate the fetal back before applying the fetal monitor

this is used to determine the fetal presentation by standing beside the woman and palpate the contents of the fundus.
fundal grip
this is to determine the position of the fetal back by placing both hands on the maternal abdomen, one on each side. One is use to support, while the other is for palpating. this is an important procedure for you to be able to know where to auscultate for FHT
umbilical grip
this is to determine the engagement of the baby by placing a hand over the symphysis pubis and attemp to grasp the presenting part. When this moves, it means the it is not yet engaged. When it doesnt, it is already engaged.

this is use to determine the altitude by using the finger pads in order to palpate thedownward motion of the symphysis pubis.
