Topic 3 Chemical Changes Flashcards
What ions do acids form In water?
What pH do acids have?
What ions do alkalis form in water?
What pH do acids have?
Form H+ ions in water
Acids have pH of less than 7
Alkalis:
Have pH above 7
Form OH- ions in water
What is the ionic equation of neutralization?
H+ + OH- —>H2O
Aq. Aq. L
What do strong acid and weak acids do in water?
Strong acids ionize completely
Weak acids do not fully ionize in solution
Rules of solubility?
Common salts of sodium, potassium and ammonium-soluble
Nitrates-soluble
Common chlorides(except from sodium and lead chloride)-soluble
Common sulfates(except lead,barium and calcium sulfate)-soluble
Common carbonates and hydroxides(except for sodium, potassium and ammonium)-insoluble
What is the reactants of Acid+Metal Oxide
—>salt+water
Acid + metal hydroxide—>
Salt+water
Acid +Metal
—>salt+water
Acid+metal carbonate—>
Salt+water+carbon dioxide
What is the test for hydrogen?
Using a lighted splint and put it near your gas and hydrogen gas will make a squeaky pop sound
How do you test for oxygen
Put lighted splint in your gas if oxygen present splint relight
How do you test for CO2?
By bubbling your gas through limewater and limewater will turn cloudy if carbon dioxide present
