Topic 2a - circuits (4. parallel circuits) Flashcards
define a parallel circuit
components connected in parallel each have their own branch in a circuit connected to the + and - terminal of the supply. if you remove or disconnect one of them it will hardly effect any of the other components.
Potential difference in parallel circuits
each branch in the circuit has the same potential difference as the power supply.
current in parallel circuits
I1 = I2 + I3
summary of series circuits 3 important rules
pd across each branch is same a the pd of the source pd
the current is split across the branches and the total current is the sum of the current of each branch
the total resistance of a parallel circuit is less than the smallest resistance of an individual circuit branch
