Job enlargement (same skilled level job variation)
Job enrichment (increase level of responsibility to make work challenging and rewarding)
Benefits of empowerment through job enrichment
Benefits: motivating, commitment (lower labour turnover/absenteeism), frees up time for managers
Drawbacks: employees may not be educated in making decisions, less clear role of manager
3 advs and 3 disadvs of team working (uniting employees towards a common goal)
Advs: responsibility to team mates to reach goal, higher success satisfaction, learning from each other
Disadvs: productivity may fall to level of worse worker, time wasting discussions, overlooks good workers, diminishes self worth
Taylor’s method
Production setting, piece rate the way to achieving efficiency
Mayo’s theory
Social interaction, teamworking and esteem causes better performance
Maslow’s theory
Levels of needs, must establish one to move onto next layer.
