What is his theory?
That early childhood experiences determine our future behaviour and personality.
With references that there are three parts of personality: The Id, Ego and Superego
Aspects of the ID : Its motivations and effects
Motivated by: Pleasure and immediate gratification of needs
Effects: It is driven to complete pleasure motive, with the blind desire to satisfy the urges at all costs
Aspects of the EGO : Its motivations and effects
Motivated by: The reality principle- reason, common sense and logic
Effects: It manages time of gratification, it balances the conflicting demands between the desires and conscience
Aspects of the SUPEREGO: Its motivations and effects
Motivated by: The moral codes,taught by parents during early socialisation
Effects: Regulates rules and standards, with the influence of Id
What were to occur if the ID were to dominate the mind?
The mind may become uncontrollable
What were to occur if the SUPEREGO were to dominate the mind?
The person would be very moralistic
What were to occur if the EGO were to dominate the mind?
The person would be incapable of accepting change
