What is the definition of globalisation?
The idea that barriers between societies are disappearing and people are becoming increasingly interconnected across national boundaries.

How does globalisation link to population diversity?
-Globalisation is increasing the diversity of thr type of migrants
-Vertovec= globalisation has lead to ‘super diversity’

What is the Feminisation of Migration?
-There are more female migrants filling patriarchal stereotypical feminine roles
-Ehrenreich & Hochschild= care, domestic and sex work is typically done by women from poorer women, this could be because of a higher demand for these roles and because men are still reluctant to help with these roles

-They create hierarchal identities, so not referring to themselves as just one nationality but ordering how much they signify with each other their personal cultures

-It as created more diverse migration patterns and people create transnational identities (where they identify with more than one nationality)

-The state wishes to control immigration, linking immigration policies with national security policies

-Assimilation
-People had to adopt the language and culture of the country, but, some people were reluctant to drop their own culture

Yes.

What are the two types of diversity that Eriksen describes?
-‘Shallow’ diversity= minor cultural differences and beliefs that are brought into the country (no huge impact)
-‘Deep’ diversity= big cultural differences and beliefs that are brought into the country, for example, arranged marriage

How do critics criticise multiculturalism?
They say it’s policies celebrate ‘shallow diversity’, instead of addressing deeper problems migrants (in particular their children) face, for example, racism.
