What is the Structural View?
The belief that we are shaped entirely by the structure of society, we behave entirely according to societal norms. The ‘macro’ approach = how wider society impacts us.
What is the Social Action View?
The belief of free will, the individual has power to control society, ‘micro’ approach = smaller scale interactions. The beliefs that we have about others influences how we interact with them.
What is the Functionalist View?
Society is based on a value consensus, there is a shared culture in society which brings people together and everyone in society depends on each other, each person contributes to the well-being of society.
What is the Marxist View?
Society is based on class and conflict, society is split into two social classes (capitalist and working class), the bourgeoisie (CC) exploit workers and all social institutions serve to maintain capitalism and the idea that inequality is fair.
What is the Feminist View?
Society is based on gender division and conflict, institutions are male dominated (patriarchal)
