Topic 2 - A : Cell structures (Mitosis) Flashcards
What is Interphase
Cell growth
G1, S and G2
DNA is unravelled and replicated alongside doubling the organelle to increase ATP production
What happens in G1
Cell grows and new organelles and proteins are made
What happens in S phase
Dna replication
What happens in G2
Cell keeps growing and proteins needed for cell division are made
What is the structure of chromosomes in mitosis
At start of mitosis it is in x shape, two sister chromatids joined in the middle by a centromere
Describe Prophase
Chromosomes condense
Centrioles move to opposite poles of cell
Spindle fibres formed across cell
Nuclear envelope breaks down
Describe Metaphase
The chromosomes line up at middle of cell
attach to spindle by their centromere
Describe Anaphase
Sister chromatids separate
spindles contract pulling chromatids to opposite poles of cell
