topic 13 Flashcards
Branches of sacral plexus
1.Superior gluteal: L4-S1 + Nerve to quadratus femoris
2.Inf. gluteal & 3.nerve to obturator internus: L5 - s2
4.Post. femoral cutaneous : S1 -S3
5.Pudendal : S2 - S4
6.sciatic : L4 - S3
L4 L5 S1 - S4 remember to draw the diagram
coursing of nerves?
1.exits through greater sciatic foramen, sup. border of piriformis
2.exits through g.s.f, inf. border of piriformis
3.exits through g.s.n, inf. to piriformis and btwn post. femoral cutaneous & pudendal
4.enter post. thigh by g.s.n , inf to piriformis and sup to obturator internus
5.exits through g.s.f, down gluteal region, dorsal to sacrospinous lig. , medial to internal pudendal vessels, out through l.s.f in pudendal canal then splits into 3
6. exits the pelvis and enters the gluteal region via g.s.f. emerges inferiorly to the piriformis muscle descends inferolateral direction & bifrucates a popliteal fossa
muscles and/or areas supplied by nerves
1.Tensor fascia latae, gluteus medius & minimus
2.gluteus maximus
3.obturator internus , gemellus & hip joint
4.skin of post thigh & perineum
5.post. of thigh
branches of nerves
1 & 2 : n/a
3. gluteal branch-buttocks & long fibular branch- scrotum & labium
4. splits into i.common fibular: descends along medial biceps tendon to neck of fibula with a.deep has 3 b: muscular branch-leg extensors, lat. terminal branch-extensor hallucis & extensor digitorum brevis, med. terminal branch-dorsal digitorum
b. sup. : muscular branch-peroneus longus & brevis and cutaneous branch- skin of anterolateral leg
ii.tibial:passes b/w gastrocnemius heads with popliteal vessels, passs down post tibialis b/w sup & deep flexors : 4 branches : sural nerve , medial & lateral plantar nerves and med. calcaneal branch
