A

A condition causing the bones to become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, resulting from hormone changes, or a deficiency in calcium or vitamin D.

Improved muscular endurance meaning working longer without tiring.

Injury to ligaments, tendons and muscles.

Being fitter means you’re able to fight off illness. It also reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes and type 2 diabetes and CHD (Coronary Heart Disease). Exercise can also reduce the risk of some cancers and makes insulin more effective.

Relieves stress and tension from pressures of daily life.

Puts you at risk of sports related injuries. Also, competition pressure can lead to psychological illnesses and can lead to an obsessive interest in weight and performance.

The lungs specifically the alveoli.

Where smoking reduces the number of alveoli and the surface area resulting in poor gaseous exchange.

May cause the smoker to become short of breath due to lack of oxygen in and CO2 out.

The heart has to work harder to get O2 to working muscles and so gets tired quicker.

Constricts (narrowing) the arteries and causes the heart to beat faster.

Boosts energy levels and supplies body with essential nutrients it needs for a healthy immune system, helps sleep better and reduces risk of heart disease, strokes and type 2 diabetes.

Lowers risk of disease and risk of developing mental health conditions.

Increases risk of low self esteem, anxiety and depression.
