They inhibit the MAO enzyme, which destroys Norepinephrine and serotonin (monoamines), allowing them to remain active for longer.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a secreted protein essential for neuronal development and survival, synaptic plasticity, and cognitive function. It is seen as a biomarker for depression.
