What do Catholics teach about marriage?
- it is a gift from god that unites the couple and provides eternal love and comfort- these are highlighted in the vows
- it is a way to lie a holy life by being in covenant with God
- gives the opportunity of new life to show the love of Christ in the world and build society
What are other attitudes to marriage?
- not everyone beliefs in the sacramental nature, for example humanists
- there are other types of marriage like same sex and legal ceremonies
- many people cohabit and have children before marriage

What are Catholics views to civil marriages, cohabiting and same sex marriages?
- cohabiting involves raising a family before marriage, but Catholics believe procreation should be saved for marriage and a nuclear family
- same sex marriages can’t procreate so they aren’t supported
- civil ceremonies don’t have the same legal status but acts as a symbol of love, mon conformists may offer a blessing for this
What is the Catholics view towards sex?
- sex is procreative so the child can be brought up in the faith and follow natural law
- the church teaches that sex outside of marriage is wrong so believes, cohabitation, same sex, extramarital sex and premarital sex are all wrong
- sex must be unitive and faithful in a place of freedom and love
What are other attitudes to sex?
- no religious people believe sex can happen whenever but must have consent
- no religious don’t agree that sex had to be procreative so contraception can be used
- views towards sex have changed as now 48% of children are born outside of marriage
What are the similarities and difference between Catholic and non-religious views on sex?
- both believe sex should be done out of mutual respect and faithfully
- both believe in some form of contraception being key, in non religious this is condoms etc in church this is family planning
- non-religious accept cohabitation and allow same-sex marriage
What are Catholic beliefs to the family?
- family was created by God and stems from the holy family
- it is the basis of society and domestic church
- family life should consist of evangelising where children can be brought into the community of faith and grow morally
- family is a vocation agreed at marriage
What are other attitudes to the family?
- There are other forms of family, nuclear, extended, same sex and single parent of which all should be important as long as the basis of it is love and structure
- not all are called to have a family but other vocation like priests
What are church views to single parent hood, cohabiting and divorce?
- understand single parenthood as the church must help society from the position their in and these vary with couples
- divorce is acceptable but they cannot re-marry as this breaks the covenant with a God which should be eternal (only if parter dies)
- cohabiting, Ideally kids will be raised in marriage yet faith and love is mot important
What are different ways to support the family?
- family worship and mass
- classes for parents such as catechist programmes and offer help to raise kids
- children’s groups like youth clubs allows catholic socialising if they don’t attend a Catholics school
- counselling as parish priests are first points of constant and can offer financial aid or support
- family group movement brings families together to work with each other to shows the love of hues and take part in low cost activities
Why does the parish support the family?
- continue gospel values and teachings of jesus
- helps the faith to grow as ensures children are raised in faith and image of the church
- shows they are on body
- focal point that emphasises important of family as domestic church
What are Catholics teachings on family planning?
- the church is against artificial forms of contraception like condemn as goes against pro-creative nature of sex
- promotes natural family planning as a form of natural contraception
- Catholics believe in the sanctity of life and life beginning at contraception
- some forms of contraceptive are abortive and can promote promiscuity and unfaithfulness which breaks the covenant with God
What are other Christian attitudes to family planning?
- many other support the use of contraception that doesn’t end life e.g. the morning after pill
- some reformed Christians don’t believe sex has to be procreative but rather unitive so support them
- using situation ethics so,e might argue it is okay as a family may not be financially stable to have a child

- some like abortion so be allows in situations like rape but also because it gives couples a choice to want a family and love it
