Topic 1 - Microscopy Flashcards
What are light microscopes?
Microscopes that pass light through the specimen. Let us see nuclei and chloroplasts and to study living cells.
What are electron microscopes?
They use electrons rather than light. Have a higher magnification and resolution than light microscopes.
What have electron microscopes allowed us to do?
Allowed us to have a greater understanding of how cells work and role of subcellular structures
How do you work out the total magnification?
Total magnification = eyepiece lens magnification x objective lens magnification
Why should estimating be used when using microscopy?
It can help you check if your answer is correct. To estimate round the numbers to 1sf
What are advantages of using an electron microscope?
Higher magnification / resolution
More detail
Can see inside cells (can see organelles)
