How do viruses reproduce?
They aren’t cells so they have to infect living cells called host cells to reproduce. Specific types of viruses will only infect specific cells
What is HIV?
Human immunodeficiency virus that infects and kills white blood cells
What does HIV lead to?
AIDS which is when someone’s immune system deteriorates and eventually fails, therefore the person becomes vulnerable to other infections by other pathogens
How do you prevent HIV from being spread?
Use a condom as this disease is spread through bodily fluids. Medication also reduces the risk of an infected individual passing on the virus.
What is chlamydia?
A sexually transmitted bacterial infection that can result in infertility in men and women
How do you reduce the spread of chlamydia?
Wear a condom in sex, screening individuals so they can be treated for the infection, avoiding sexual contact
