Topic 1 Flashcards
Anatomy
Study of the structure of the body and relation to one another
The Bodies Level of Organization
Chemical (atoms and molecules), Organelle, Cellular, Tissue, Organ, Organ System, Organismal
Key Concept
Tissues- Building blocks of the body
Systems and Functions in Body
Integumentary- protects
Skeletal- framework, protects and supports
Muscular-movement
Lymphatic/ Immune- protects body from disease
Respiratory- supplies blood and oxygen to body
Digestive- provides nutrients
Nervous- control system
Endocrine- hormones
Cardiovascular- transport blood
Urinary- eliminates waste
Reproductive- produce offspring
Directional Terms
Superior- above(towards head) Inferior- below Anterior- towards front of body Posterior- towards back of body Medial- towards midline of body Lateral- away from midline Proximal-closer to origin of body part Distal- farther from origin of body part Superficial- closer to skin Deep- away from skin Intermediate-between medial and lateral
Planes of Body
Frontal- anterior/postier, vertical
Transverse- superior and inferior, horizontal
Saggital- left and right parts of body, vertical
Dorsal Body Cavity
cranial cavity- contains brain
vertebral cavity- contains spinal cord
Ventral Body Cavity
thoracic cavity- surrounded by ribs/ muscles, subdivided into 3 parts pleural cavities, each contain lung, superior mediastinum and the pericardial mediastinum( contains heart)
Adominopelvic cavity- abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity
Membrane in Ventral Body Cavity
serous membrane parietal- lines the cavity (outside) Visceral- covers the organs (inside) pleura membrane- lungs peritoneum- digestive
