Q

General Characteristics of Epithelial Tissue

A

Tightly packed, cells reproduce readily, avascular, polarity, lines the cavities of urinary, reproductive, digestive and respiratory system, good nerve supply, supported by connective tissue

Q

Connective Tissue Characteristics

A

cells are farther apart, extracellular matrix, vascular or avascular, slower reproduction
composed of: ground substances(insterstial fluid, proteins that are the glue that allow cells to attach to the matrix),proteoglycans-made of proteins and carbs, glycans trap fluid.
fibres- collagen(strength), elastic, and reticular (form of collagen)
cells-fibroblast- make connective tissue, create proteins

Q

Areolar

A
gel-like matrix, elastic, collagen
wraps/cushions organs

Q

Adipose

A
gel-like matrix
closely packed fat cells (adipocytes)
nucleus pushed to the side
reserves food fuel

16
Q

Reticular

A

loose reticular fibres
gel-like ground substance
reticular cells lie on fibres
fibres from soft internal skeleton, support white blood cells

17
Q

Regular Dense

A

parallel collagen fibres, few elastic fibres
attaches muscle to bone, bone to bone
withstands stress when force is applied in the same direction
tensile strength

18
Q

Irregular Dense

A

irregularly arranged collagen fibres, with elastic fibres
withstand force being applied in multiple different directions
dermis of skin
