Changing Lives of Plain Indians
After the Great Sioux War the plain tribes were split into US reservation
Supplies were limited
3 million buffalo were killed and many native starved
Many children were removed from their families and put into educated in Christian boarding schools and given Christian names
Native Americans were told to live in houses not tipis
The Ghost dance was the last major movement of the Native Americans
Changing Black American lives
The cotton industry had collapsed
Still prevented from getting well paid jobs
Most black Americans were sharecroppers
Black Americans moved west to become homesteaders
Lots of racism
Jim Crow Laws lead to segregation
Black people got forced to live in Black people only areas
KKK lynched many Black people and violence was common
Growth of cities and big businesses
Cotton and Tabacco industry doubled between 1880 and 1900
Bonanza farms began to appear after 1880
Mining and demand for steel, coal, iron and minerals increased between 1876 and 1890
In 1870 there was 14 cities but in 1900 there were 38
Many cities were overcrowded and rife with disease
Immigration continued to grown on news of American economy
