must be thoroughly examined due to close biomechanical and fnx relationship bt TMJ and Cervical Region
many patients have cervical component

related to general pathology of OA and RA

most common TMJD - p! w/ ms controlling jaw function as well as shoulder/neck ms

A
dislocated jaw, displaced disc, or condylar injury
- loss of fnx mob 2nd to increased ms activity from stress/anxiety
- causes
- trauma leading to jt edema, capsulitis, hyper/hypomobility or abnormal fxn of lig, capsule or ms
- congenital palate malformation
- abnormal function - chewing, paranormal breathing, forward head

A
plain films or MRI and clinical exam

A
- Postural re-education w/ ant/post curv of spine
- modalities for reduction of p! and inflam (phono)
- Biofeedback to minimize the effects of stress/anxiety
- Joint mob - INFERIOR glides gap joint, stretch capsule, and allow relocation of ant. displaced disc
- flexibility and ms strength
- Roccbado’s Jaw opening
- maintaining tongue contact and isometric mandibular exercise
- Patient education/posture
- **night splints **
- Critical to normalize cervical spine posture before the patient recieves any permant dental procedure or appliance
