Lower Leg Conditions Flashcards
Anterior Compartment Syndrome
- increased compartmental pressure resulting in a local ischemic condition
- Chronic or exertional compartment syndrome by exercise described as deep, cramping feeling
- Acute ACS: sudden trauma results in swelling
Anterior Compartment Syndrome: Dx
clinical examination
Anterior Compartment Syndrome: PT
- Considered an emergency medical condition
- requires immediate surgical intervention with fasciotomy
Anterior Tibial Periostitis
- Overuse condition from:
- abnormal biomechanical alignment,
- poor conditioning,
- improper training methods.
- Anterior Tibialis and Extensor Hallucis Longus
- P! w/ palpation of lateral tibia and anterior compartment
Anterior Tibial Periostitis: Dx
clinical examination
Anterior Tibial Periostitis: PT
correction of ms imbalance and biomechanical faults
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome
- overuse/chronic overpronation injury of the posterior tibialis &/or medial soles resulting in periosteal inflammation at ms attachments
- p! elicited with palp to distal posteromedial border of tibia
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome: Dx
clinical exam
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome: PT
correction of ms imbalance and biomechanical faults.
Stress Fractures:
overuse injury resulting in microtrauma to (49%) tibia or (10%) fibula from abnormal biomechanical alignment, poor conditioning and improper training methods
Stress Fractures: Dx
plain film imaging and bone scan
Stress Fractures: PT
correction of ms imbalance and biomechanical faults.
