TLE; Chapter 1 (Electrical Tools) Flashcards
-These tools are manipulated by our hands, without using electrical energy
-Pliers, Screwdrivers, Hammers
Hand Tools
This tool is used to loosen or tighten screws with slotted heads
Screwdriver
-The blade tip of this tool is wedge-shaped and resembles a negative sign
-Used to drive screws with a single slot head
Standard / Flat Screw Driver
-This tool has a cross tip resembling a positive sign
-Used to drive screws with cross slot heads
Philips Screw Driver
-This could be in the shape of a screwdriver or a wrench
-Its funtion is to drive scres with hexagonal slot head
Wrench / Hex Key / Allen Screwdriver
-These are tools used in driving or punding and pulling out nails
-They are made of hard steel, wood, plastic or rubber
Hammer
-Most commonly used
-Used to pull out and drive in nails
Claw Hammer
-Made out of rubber or wood
-Used in chiseling
Rubber Mallet
Used in tightening nails
Ball peen hammer
It is used in cutting, twisting, bending, holding, and gripping wires and cables
Pliers
Also called as Lineman’s Pliers
Combination Pliers
Used for gripping, holding, and cutting electrical wires, cables, and even small nails
Combination Pliers
This type of pliers is used for cutting fine, medium, and big wires and cables
Side Cutting Pliers
-This can reach tight spaces of small openings where other pliers cannot access
-Also used in making terminal loops of copper wires
Long Nosed Pliers
A tool used for removing insulation of medium size wires ranging from gauge #10 to gauge #16
Wire Stripper
Are tools manipulated by our hands and and with the use of electrical energy
Machine / Power Tools
-A small drilling machine with a chuck capacity of 1/4” to 3/8”
-It is used in making holes on metal sheets and concrete walls
Portable Electric Drill
They may either have a grinding wheel, view wheel, or two grinding wheels
Grinding Wheel
These are tools or instruments activated by air pressure
Pneumatic Tools
This wrench uses compresssed air to quickly and powerfully turn nuts, bolts, and other objects
Torque Wrench
-Lighter than a comparable electric drill
-Repeatedly stalling or oveloading does not damage or overheat the air drill
Air Drill
Finding the measurements of the given objects
Measuring Tools
A pocket size tool used to test the line wire or circuit if there is current in it
Test Light
-Used in determining the size of wires/conductors
-The gauge ranges from 0 to 60 AWG (American Wire Gauge)
Wire Gauge
-Stands for american wire gauge
-The larger the number, the smaller the wire diameter and thickness
AWG
A measuring tool used to measure length, width, and thickness of short flat object and in sketching straight lines
Ruler/Foot Rule
A measuring tool used to measure the length of an object in centimeter and inches
Pull-Push Rule
-Also called as Mulit-tester
-Used to measure the voltage, resistance, and current of a circuit
Volt-Ohmmeter (VOM)
