Q

How can you relate the first temptation in our lives as humans?

A

-For us, this is the basic temptation to do anything to become rich
-An example of this is the desire to be an instant millionaire, which is very common in our society today
-In itself, becoming rich is not sinful; it is how we acquire and how we use our riches that can be sinful

Q

How can you relate the second temptation in our lives as humans?

A

-In our time, this temptation is very common not only among politicians but even among students
-It consists of putting everything, even God, into the pursuit of power over others
-It is where the devil offers us power that we desire if we worship him

17
Q

How can you relate the third temptation in our lives as humans?

A

-It was a temptation to gain popularity through an easy, momentarily dazzling way, by abusing the power of God, and in such a self-centered way brings salvation to all

18
Q

What was Jesus’ response to the first temptation?

A

The first temptation is centered on HIs fidelity to the Father’s saving plan
“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by the very word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”

19
Q

What was Jesus’ response to the second temptation?

A

“Do not put the Lord your God to the test”
He refused to misuse His power to save us from sin by some magical act

20
Q

What was Jesus’ response to the third temptation?

A

Jesus’ reaction was immediate and total rejection;
“The Lord, you God, shall you worship, and Him alone shall you serve”

21
Q

Why do humans still fall into temptation?

A

When we allow ourselves to be lured by passion and fail to discern the true reality of what is being proposed, we fall into temptation: We sin. Temptations are part of our being human

22
Q

(1) What do we need to do to be able to discern the temptation and lies?

A

In the Lord’s prayer, we say “and lead us not into temptation.” In saying this, we pray that God will not allow us to succumb to the lure of temptation; we pray that we will not sin

23
Q

(2) What do we need to do to be able to discern the temptation and lies?

A

To overcome temptation, we need the Holy Spirit who inspires us to reject the temptation and choose God, rather than sin. This is only possible when we immerse ourselves in prayer; when we kneel and humbly ask for God’s strength and protection
