What are lines?
basis of all drawings
Why are lines the basis of all drawings?
Because they have the same relation to drawings as letters do to words
Why should lines be clear and simple?
to have the correct meaning when the drawing is read
They are classified according to their?
weight, construction, and function
What is Border Line?
the heaviest or darkest in a drawing. The border surrounds a drawing and is usually rectangular in shape.
What is Visible Line?
A heavy line used to represent the outline, the exterior contour of the object. It represents the visible edges of an object and are always shows as continuous lines.
Hidden line
a medium weight line used to describe outlines that are not visible to the eye from a certain view.
What is hidden line formerly called?
dotted line or invisible line
measurement of short dashes of hidden lines
about 3-4 mm with about 1-2mm or 1/2 inch spaces apart
Center line
are thin broken lines used to indicate the center of a circle or radius.
What are the lightest and finest lines?
Center lines
What is Extension line?
a line extending from view to indicate the limit of a measurement given by a dimension line that is located outside the view.
What is Dimension Line?
used to indicate the measurements of an object.
a dimension line indicates three parts what are they?
Arrowheads, number of measurements, fine line.
What is fine line?
has the same thickness or weight as the extension line
what is an arrowhead?
Are short heavy strokes called flares placed at the extremities of this fine line. The shape of it is like an ordinary pen.
What is a number or figure?
is usually positioned at the middle of the fine line and its axis is perpendicular to it.
What is Leader Line?
is a fine broken line with an arrowhead at one end. It is used for indicating the measurement and name of a part of an object
Parts of a leader line
a short horizontal line, inclined line at any convenient angle.
What is a Phantom line?
used when showing objects having repetitive details such as screws, threads, gear teeth, or spring coils. Used to save time and avoid confusion
What is cutting plane line?
Indicates where the imaginary cutting takes place.
What is sectional view?
are used to to describe the interior construction of an object
what are Long break lines
a limiting line is a long break. Used for limiting the length of an elongated object so that can be shown without change the size of its view
Short break line
medium line used to break an object when it is too large to get on the drawing paper
What are section lines?
indicates that the inside surface of an object is not visible.
