Exocrine Glands
Describes a single-celled gland or a gland composed of many cells
Unicellular or multicellular
Refers to the branching organization of secretory cells in the gland
Branched
Refers to whether the duct of the gland does or doesn’t branch
Simple or compound
Describes a gland whose secretory cells from a tube
Tubular
Describes secretory cells that form a bulb-like sac
Alveolar
Secretions pass through the cell membranes of the secretory cells
Merocrine Glands
Portion of the cell containing secretions is released as it separates from the rest of the cell
Apocrine Glands
Entire secretory cells disintegrate and released with their contents.
