Connective Tissue Flashcards
Primary purpose is to connect and support other tissues
Connective Tissues
Consists of fibers and ground substance
Scattered Cells
Matrix
Present in both loose and dense connective tissue
Fibroblasts
Present in loose connective tissue
Adipocytes
Eat foreign and dead cells
Macrophages
Cells create antibodies
Plasma
Proteins that support connective tissue
Matrix Fibers
Made up of protein collagen and are tough and flexible
Collagen Fibers
Made up of protein elastin and are strong and stretchable
Elastic Fibers
Made up of thin collagen fibers and branch to form a netlike pattern
Reticular Fibers
A combination of epithelial and connective tissues that work together to complete a specific function
Epithelial Membrane
Line interior organs and cavities
Serous Membrane
Line body cavities that are exposed to outside of the body
Mucous Membranes
Line the cavities at bone joints
Synovial Membranes
Skin
Cutaneous Membrane
