Tissues Bingo Flashcards
Compact bone
provide strength and protection to bones
Macrophages
detection, phagocytosis and destruction of bacteria and other harmful organisms
Areolar
It provides support and helps to protect organs, muscles, and many other tissues. It also helps to bind the skin together
Collagenous fibers
provide mechanical strength to keep the body together, including when we move
loose connective tissue
holds organs, anatomic structures, and tissues in place
Simple columnar
Secretion, excretion, and absorption
Cardiac tissue
responsible for the contractility of the heart and, therefore, the pumping action
Chondrocytes
responsible for the production of collagen and the extracellular matrix that will lead to the maintenance of cartilaginous tissues within joints
Reticular fibers
provide the bulk of the supporting framework of the more cellular organs
Smooth muscle
helps with digestion and nutrient collection
Extracellular matrix
helps cells attach to, and communicate with, nearby cells, and plays an important role in cell growth, cell movement, and other cell functions
plasma
take nutrients, hormones, and proteins to the parts of the body that need it
stratified squamous epithelium
protection against microorganisms from invading underlying tissue and/or protection against water loss
Hyaline Cartilage
helps your bones move smoothly past each other in your joints
Goblet cells
secrete mucin and create a protective mucus layer
Bone
permit locomotion, protect vital organs, facilitate breathing, play a role in electrolyte homeostasis, and house hematopoietic sites
Basement membrane
separate tissues and protect them from mechanical stress
Fibrocartilage
act as a cushion within joints, where it helps manage compression forces and reduces stress placed on joints.
Pseudostratified ciliated columnar
absorption and secretion of mucus, protection from foreign particles (dust, pathogens, and allergens), and transport of materials such as hormones and enzymes.
Nervous tissue
coordinating and controlling many body activities
Elastic Fibers
confer elasticity and recoil to organs and tissues such as skin, lungs, blood vessels, ligaments and tendon
Blood
transporting oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and tissues
Skeletal Tissue
enable humans to move and perform daily activities
adipose
serve as an energy storing reservoir
Mast cells
play an important role in how the immune system responds to certain bacteria and parasites and they help control other types of immune responses
