Tissues Flashcards
Types of connective tissue
- Fibrous
- loose fibrous(fat)
- adipose(fat) white or brown
- reticular
- dense fibrous, regular or irregular - Bone
- compact
- Cancellous - Cartilage
- hyaline
- fibrocartage
- elastic - Blood
- Hematopoietic tissue
Loose fibrous
Loose arrangements of collagen fibers and cells
Adipose (fat)
Cells that contain triglyceride
White: under skin, protection, insulation
Brown: pockets within white fat of neck and torso, heat production
Reticular
Networks of fine collagen fibers that supports blood producing cells
Ex: in bone marrow or spleen
Dense fibrous
Dense arrangement of collagen fiber bundles forming straps or sheets that are flexible and strong
Ex: tendons, ligaments, skin
Bone (compact and cancellous)
Hard calcified matrix arranged in osteons or network of beams that support and protect
Ex: skeleton
Cartilage (hyaline, fibrocartilage and elastic)
Hard but flexible gel matrix with embedded chondrocytes
Hyaline: part of nasal septum
Fibrocartilage: disks between vertebrae in knee joint
Elastic: external ear
Blood
Liquid matrix with flowing red and white cells for transportation
Hematopoietic
Liquid matrix with dense arrangement of blood cell producing cells like bone marrow
Skeletal muscle tissue
Striated muscle is voluntary. Long threadlike cells with multiple nuclei and striations
Maintain posture
Cardiac muscle tissue
Branching interconnected cylinders with faint striations. Striated involuntary. Walls of heart
Smooth muscle tissue
Threadlike cells with no striations. Involuntary or visceral. Form walls of blood vessels
