Tissues Flashcards
1
Q
Four main types of tissues
A
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Muscle
- Nervous
2
Q
Epithelial Tissue
A
- Covers surfaces, lines cavities, forms glands.
- Skins outer layer.
- Lines body’s tubes and hollow organs.
- Squamous, cuboidal, columnar. Simple & stratified.
3
Q
Connective Tissue
A
- Supports & forms framework of all parts of the body.
- Five types:
1. Circulating
2. Loose
3. Dense
4. Cartilage
5. Osseous (Bone)
4
Q
Circulating Connective Tissue
A
- Fluid consistency (Liquid Matrix)
- Blood & Lymph
5
Q
Loose Connective Tissue
A
- Soft, jelly like consistency.
- Areolar
- Adipose: Fat
6
Q
Dense Connective Tissue
A
- Many fibers.
- Strong.
- Irregular:
- Regular:
7
Q
Cartilage
(Connective Tissue type)
A
- Hyaline, Elastic, Fibrous
*Very firm. - Ear, nose tip, etc.
8
Q
Osseous (Bone) Tissue
A
Hardest type of Connective Tissue.
9
Q
Muscle Tissue
A
- Voluntary & Involuntary
- Skeletal (Voluntary): Works w/ tendons & bones to move the body. Striated.
- Cardiac (Involuntary): Bulk of the heart wall (myocardium). Intercalated discs.
- Smooth (Involuntary): Forms the walls of hollow organs in Ventral body cavities. EX: Stomach, intestines, gallblader, urinary bladder. Also in walls of many tubular structures.
10
Q
Nervous Connective Tissue
A
Conducts nerve impulses.
11
Q
Exocrine Glands
A
Secrete to the outside of the body. Has ducts.
Saliva, sweat, etc.
12
Q
Endocrine Glands
A
Secrete to the surrounding tissues inside the body. Ductless.
Hormones.
13
Q
Two Types of Tissue Membranes
A
Epithelial & Connective
14
Q
3 types of Epithelial Membranes
A
- Serous: lines walls of body cavities & outermost layer of organs.
- Mucous: Line tubes & other spaces open to the outside.
- Cutaneous: Skin.
15
Q
4 types of Connective Tissue Membranes
A
- Synovial: Secrete lubricating fluid that reduces friction between the ends of bones.
- Meninges: Cover the brain and spinal cord.
- Fascia: Areolar and adipose tissue. Insulates.
- Organ Coverings: Fibrous connective tissue. Peri- because they are around organs.
