TISSUE STRUCTURES Flashcards
Basic structure and function of EPITHELIAL TISSUE?
Lines body surfaces, hallow organs and forms glands. Mostly avascular
What are the 3 types of EPITHELIAL TISSUES?
Squamous, cuboidal and columnar
What’s the basic structure and function of CONNECTIVE TISSUE?
Forms framework of organs, connects organs together. Has extra cellular material called the matrix
What are the different types of ground substance?
Liquid, gel-like and calcified
What do collagen, elastic and reticular fibres do in the matrix?
Increase strength and elasticity
Fibroblast cell function?
Secrete fibers
Mesenchymal Cells
Connective tissue stem cells
Function of neutrophils, lymphocyte and mast cells?
Prevent infection
Function of macrophages?
Remove pathogens
What do adipocyte cells do?
Store fat
What are the 3types of CONNECTIVE TISSUE?
Embryonic, fluid and mature connective tissue
What are the two types of Mature connective tissue?
Connective tissue proper and supportive connective tissue
What are the two types of connective tissue proper?
Loose and dense
What are the two types of supportive connective tissue?
Bone and cartilage
What is a type of embryonic connective tissue?
Mesenchyme
Where is mesenchyme found and what’s its function?
Fetus and embryo. Gives rise to all other types of connective tissue
What are the two types of loose connective tissue?
Areolar and Adipose
What type of matrix is in areolar tissue and what cells are present?
Gel-like and fibroblasts, macrophages, mast cells and some WBC
Where can you find areolar tissue?
Under epithelial tissue, packages organs and surrounding capillaries
What is the structure of adipose tissue?
Has a matrix and highly vascularized
Where can you find adipose tissue
In spaces between organs and surrounding blood vessels
What are the two types of dense connective tissue?
Dense regular and dense irregular connective tissue
What is the difference between loose and dense connective tissue proper?
Dense has thicker fibers and fewer cells
What are two examples of dense connective tissue proper
Tendons and ligaments
