Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor, platelet aggregation inhibitor
Mechanism of action for Tirofiban
Inhibits aggregation of platelets by reversibly antagonizing fibrinogen binding to the Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor site
Indications for Tirofiban
Used with heparin to provide anticoagulant in hospital as patient’s undergo angioplasty or PCI
Contraindications for Tirofiban
Trauma, surgery within 30 days, hemorrhagic stroke, intracranial neoplasm, AV malformation Aneurism, Aortic dissection, systolic BP of >180 diastolic BP of >110
Adverse affects of Tirofiban
dizziness, pain, diaphoresis, bleeding, CVA, bradycardia, coronary artery dissection, N/V, fever, and headache
Precautions for Tirofiban
Do not use with other Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibiors, caution with patients with platelet count of < 150,000
Dose for Tirofiban
0.4 mcg/kg/min for 30 mins (loading dose), 0.1 mcg/kg/min for 10 to 24 hrs (maintenance dose)
