When do you utilize tire chain?
Utilize tire chains during snow or ice storms.
What type of apparatus does not require the use of tire chains except under extreme conditions?
Sutphen Ladder trucks.
At whose discretion is it to utilize the tire chains?
The driver unless ordered by the company officer.
At whose discretion is it to determine the speed due to road conditions?
At the discretion of the driver.
When tire chains are being utilized, speed must never exceed?
35mph.
When must On-Spot TM chains be utilized in conjunction with regular chains?
When the snow depth exceeds 6 inches.
When should the chains be stowed and why?
The chains should be stowed whenever bare pavement is visible because the use of chains on bare pavement causes chain breakage with the possibility of damage being done to the apparatus and/or other vehicles.
When must chains be inspected and by who?
The chains shall be inspected on October 1st of every calendar year by the Driver and Company officer.
What has to be done along with inspecting the chains every year?
A fire service should be submitted indicating that the inspection was completed and the condition of the chains. Also, the Company Officer shall show all company members all videos relating to the use of tire chains.
Who do you contact with questions or if repairs need to be made to the tire chains?
