Timer based materials commercial manufacturing Flashcards
Why are children toys made from wood?
made from beech
has a fine dense grain resists to splintering and chipping wen thrown
non-toxic and finishes well
can be sanded to a very fine and smooth finish
How does the manufacture save production cost?
use a softwood such as pine or spruce
yellow and more of a produced grain
prone to denting and splitting overtime due to a more open grain structure less durable then beech
What are the advantages of flat-pack furniture?
compact for ease of transportation
low cost compared to traditional furniture
easy to assemble with limiting tools
What are the disadvantages of flat pack furniture?
needs to be constructed yourself or by someone else at additional cost
not as robust as traditional furniture
prone to damage by moisture
What are manufacturing boards?
they can be processed transported and stored and assembled without having the faults of natural timber
What is a CNC?
computer numerical control
repetitive accuracy
level of detail that is hard to achieve by hand can be done by the cnc
available in very large formats capable of producing flat pack furniture but they can also create detail ornate profiles
What is quality control?
this is when you check if the product is being produced correctly
ensures dimensional accuracy in consistent or that the product is safe to use
What device is used to make sure the measurement are correct on every product?
go/no go gauges
set to specific minimum or maximum tolerances allowed for particular component
then it is placed on the workpiece and the gauge indicates whether the part is go or no go and can be easily rejected if it is the incorrect size
