Communication of deign ideas and prototype of development Flashcards
Why is it best to backup your portfolio?
valuable work does not get lost or corrupted
and if you have drawn pictures you should then scan or take photographs incase they get lost
Why is A3 better than A4?
A3 allows larger image to be presented which may benefit certain projects
What is a sketchbook used for?
record info quickly
can be used to develop ideas
text and sketches can be cut out and copied onto your portfolio
Why is 2D design a good way of sketching?
better for plan views and for expressing size by adding dimensions
can explain mechanical and electrical concepts better
Why is 3D design a good way of sketching?
better for conveying the overall shape and for visually explaining aesthetic properties
What is oblique projection?
uses a 45 degree angle to draw lines that represent the depth of the sides and top of drawing
Why is oblique projection a good way of drawing?
gets the idea across quickly and simple
useful in early stages of developing ideas
what is isometric projection?
uses a 30 degree angle and more realistic
dimensioning can be done accurately and by using simple technique and complex shapes
Why is isometric projection a good way of drawing?
good for design ideas that have geometric shapes can also show were components fit in relation to others
What s two point perspective?
uses two vanishing points
main construction lines are pointed back to the two vanishing points
Why is the two point perspective a good way of drawing\?
most realistic views as it emulates the views eye perspective meaning that things gets smaller the further they are
What are system diagrams and schematic used for?
visually ang logically explain order of events that take place in systems
What is the difference between schematic and system diagram used for?
SYSTEMS-use block to represent diff stages of the system (inputs, process)
SCHEMATIC-graphically shows how electrical and electronic systems connect and operate using circuit symbols
What is an annotated drawing?
notes to explain the detail that a drawing cannot convey. It would say what materials it would be made from and the manufacturing technique
should be specific and clear,concise
Why is an exploded drawing helpful?
shows how the component of a product fit together
are drawn as if they are separated from each other shows the parts that would normally be hidden
What does a work drawing consist of?
front, end and plan view of the design
What is a sectional view?
this is only for some very detailed products
Enables you to see inside a design as part of it has been removed or if it has been cut out
When are work drawing best presented in?
orthographic projection
two types used first and third angle
third angle-places the plan elevation above the front elevation
first angle-plan elevation is projected below the front and the left elevation is positioned to the right
Why are audio and visual recording good?
can be used during research for client interviews site studies and group feedback
and help you gather ergonomic and anthropometric data
can be replayed to get precise details
Why do you have the calculate the amount of material you need?
so it doesn’t go to waste
so you know how much fabric you ay need
in a mechanical system you might need to decide on a particular gear ratio
Why do we model first?
test different elements of a design to help work out how viable it is
product idea can be scaled up /down
How do you model in textile or or an electronic circuit?
TEXTILE-make a toile which is a full version from a cheaper material
ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT-breadboard to connect the actual components so that it can be seem working
What is key to developing a successful prototype?
satisfy the client design brief as it will be judged against they needs
What is innovation?
this is the creativity/imagination in a design
does not have to be a new concept it ca be improvements of existing ideas
What is functionality?
a prototype has to preform its task effectively
portfolio can be used to think of different ideas
to ensure a decent functionality “worst case scenario” has to be taken in consideration so should be able to withstand tear if anything happen
What is aesthetics and what ruins it?
look good so it sells
finishing touches have to be perfected and the clients ideas have to be carried out
poor attention to detail and poor surface finishes can ruin the aesthetic
What happens at the end of the prototype production?
it is evaluated Critically and tested as well as a nalysed to see if there needs some further improvement
What tests are taken place for evaluation?
clients and group test and evaluate the product and destructive and non destructive takes place to see if it is safe and fits its purpose
What is suggesting modification?
Once evaluated weakness should be able to be recognised and then you improve it so it will be ready for sale
What is done after you tested, evaluated and modified the product?
it should be fi for purpose this is when the product should preform its task successfully
