What is batch production?
Used when a certain number of identical products are required.This is known as a batch as they will all have been produced together
What does a batch production need?
highly skilled labour
small production lines and semi skilled workers may be employed
specialist tools and equipment
initial set up can he high but the more produced the cheaper it is
What is lead time?
time measures how long it takes to complete a process from beginning to end
What are the typical batch products?
clothing food items, kayaks
What is mass production?
tend to be item that in constant use so a lot is made at once

What is the process of mass productions
a production line that does not need to change this way the manufacturer can be highly automated as little skilled labour as possible
production lines means killed electricians are needed as downtime can be costly
What is continuous production?
similar to mass production although the products tend to be assembling elsewhere
staff are low skilled and operate the factory in shifts
What does Continuous production rely on
Rely on high levels of automation and this type of factory normally makes a very limited range of products
this saves any potential changes to production line and avoids downtime
