what are the types of joint?

what knock down fittings are there?
modesty blocks, barrel nut and bolt, cam-lock connector,
why are knock down fittings used?
faster and cheaper. they are often temporary but can be used permanently. good alternative to traditional wood joints
what 9 wood joints are there?
comb joint, housing joint, mortise and tenon joint, dove tail joint, half lap joint, miter joint, shoulder joint, dowel joint and butt joint
when might wood joints be used?
used in woodwork and when combined with adhesive provide very strong yet fairly simple joints. often made using a router
what bolts are there?
barrel nut and coach bolts
what is steam bending?
steam is used to make wood pliable. it is then bent into the desired shape and then it dries and hardens in that shape
what is laminating?
forming of multiple sheets of veneer, chips or solid timber using moulds and bonded together with strong adhesive
what is turning?
turns wood quickly and as the tool is placed into it it changes shape. uses a rest, tool, must be connected at both sides and a tolerant is used
what is routing?
can be hand held, mounted or controlled. a rotating cutting bit and as the wood it either pressed along it or over it a cut or profile shape is made
