Tibia/Fibula Flashcards
Tib/Fib - AP Projection
Patient is supine
Femoral condyles are parallel
May need to use diagonal IR
May need to increase SID to 120cm
CR: perpendicular
Include both joints
Tib/Fib - AP evaluation criteria
ankle and knee joints visualized
No rotation
- proximal and distal tibiofibular joints overlapping
- fibular mineshaft free of superimposition
Tib/Fib - Lateral Projection
Can use upto 120 cm SID
Roll patient onto affected side
- bend knee slightly
- femora condyles superimposed
- heel may be slightly elevated from IR
CR: Perpendicular
Include both joints
Tib/Fib - Lateral Evaluation Criteria
Both joints visualized
True Lateral
- Distal fibula over posterior 1/3 of tibia
- slight overlap of proximal fibular head with tibia
- separation of tibial/fibular shafts
possible superimposed femoral condyles
