Thyroid phys and pharm Flashcards
What is T4 and T3?
Thyroxine
Triiodothyronine
What decrease TSH?
Somatostatin
Dopamine
High glucocorticoids
What does TSH regulate?
Thermogenesis
Feeding
Autonomic function
Energy homeostasis
How do the binding of TRH and TSH differ?
TRH is G-protein with increase in PLC/IP3 leading to release of Ca2+ and thus TSH
TSH binds to receptors and increases cAMP which facilitates release of T3/T4
Some hormones share the same alpha chains but differ on their beta chains. Which ones are these?
- FSH
- LH
- TSH other pit hormones
- HcG
What is the purpose of Thyroid peroxidase?
Causes oxidation of Iodide to iodine
- Conjugation of MIT and DIT
What can T3 and T4 bind?
- Thyroxine Binding globulin (thyroid binding protein) 75/75%
- Transthyretin 20/5%
- Albumin 5/20%
What is the drug Prophylthiouracil? aka PTU
inhibits Deiodinase I
Where is Deiodinase I made?
Kidney and liver
What is Deiodinase II made?
brain
pit
SM
Cardiac muscle
Where is Deiodinase III made and what is its purpose?
Deactivate hormones
- skin
- Placenta
What does TSH stimulate?
Increase in Thyroid peroxidase
Increase in thyroglobulin
Increase Na/I transporters activity
What are the effects of thyroid hormone?
Growth
Dev
Metabolism
What is Cretinism?
Hypothyroid in infants
- lack of thyroid in infant or hypothyroid in mother
What is the cause of hypothryoid in preggers mother?
- Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is the most common
- which is anti- TSH receptor antibodies - Lack of iodine
- Irradation
