a disease in which insufficient amounts of T3 and T4 are produced
What is the most common cause of hypothyroidism?
Hashimotos disease
Who is most at risk for hypothyroidism?
females over 50 who are white, have been pregnant before, have a genetic link, history of autoimmune disorders, or are being treated for hyperthyroidism
What are early signs of hypothyroidism?
cold intolerance, weight gain, fatigue, lethargy, memory deficits, muscle cramps, increased carotene and cholesterol, puffy face, hair loss, brittle nails
What are the late signs of Hypothyroidism?
decreased temperature, bradycardia, thick skin, yellow skin, HLD, weight gain, cardiomegaly, myxedema
What will your labs look like in Hypothyroidism?
increased TSH, decreased T3 and T4, anti-thyroid antibodies, anti-TPO
What is the hallmark sign of hypothyroidism?
anti-TPO (thyroperoxidase)
What is hyperthyroidism?
excessive T3 and T4 secretion

family history, over 40, women, caucasian, pregnant, excess idoine intake

What are some clinical manifestations of graves disease?
nervousness, insomnia, heat sensitivity, weight loss, palpable gland, bruit, A. Fib, EXOPTHALMOAS
