thymic lobes
thymic lobes are divided in to
lobules
each lobule consists of an
outer cortex
inner medulla
the cortex contains actively dividing
lymphocytes, T cells and they mature in the cortex
T cells leave to the
medulla and leave the thymus through the blood
thymic epithelial cells regulate
T-cell development and function
thymus produces the hormones
thymosins for the development and maintenance of immunological defenses
thymus plays an important role in
immunity
thymus also makes sure that any T-lymphocytes
will not react against proteins or antigens that are present in the body’s own tissue
the thymus gland preprocesses the
T-lymphpcytes
