Three-Dimensional Figures Flashcards
Rectangular Solid
A three-dimensional figure made of 6 rectangles.
Rectangular Prism
Another name for a rectangular solid.
Edge
Line segments created where the faces of a rectangular solid meet.
Vertex
Corners made where rectangular faces of prisms meet.
Faces
Individual rectangles that make up a rectangular prism.
Volume
A measure of the amount of space taken up by a three-dimensional object.
Surface Area
The total area of all the exposed outer surfaces of a three dimensional object.
Circular Cylinder
A three dimensional surface created by two circular faces on parallel surfaces and a lateral surface made up of lines connecting the points on the surfaces.
Lateral surface
The curved vertical area that connects the two cylindrical bases, not including the bases themselves.
Axis
The line connecting the centers of two circular bases of a cylindrical solid.
Right circular cylinder
A cylindrical solid whose axis is perpendicular to its bases.
Height
The length of the axis of a cylindrical solid.
Equation for the Volume of a Rectangular Solid
V = lwh
Equation for the Surface Area of a Rectangular Solid
A=2(bw+bh+w*h)
Cube
A rectangular surface with square faces
