Thr Middle Cource And Meanders Flashcards
Key things of the middle course
river flows of a more gentil slope
# the river is deeper
# the river is wider
# the river meanders/curves over land
What are meanders
Meanders are bends in a river and are formed through a combination of erosion and deposition
Outside a bend
Erosión, river is deeper creates a river cliff
This is lateral erosion
Water is pushed to the outer bend. This reduces friction with the bed and banks. So the river has more energy for transporting material which can erode the outside bank e.g abrasion and hydraulic action to form a river cliff
Inside a bend
Deposition, river is shallower create a river beach/ slip of slope
The river dose not have enough energy to carry material, this causes deposition to occur and slip off slope forms
