What organs does the thorax contain?
surrounds and protects the heart, lungs, and thoracic blood vessels.
What are some bones the thorax contains
It consists of the sternum, and 12 pairs of ribs
What are the first 7 pairs of ribs called
Called true ribs because they are connected to the sternum by costal cartilage
What are the next three pairs of ribs called
Called false ribs, because they are INDIRECTLY connected to the sternum by cartilage extension
What are the last two ribs called
Called floating ribs because they have no connection to the sternum
What happens to our thorax when we are born
When we are born, our sternum is in three parts and is the last bone in our body to fuse.
What is the hyoid bone and why is it unique
A single bone in our throat, it’s unarticulate ( it doesn’t connect to other bones ) only bone in the body that is unarticulate

Why do muscles in the throat attach to the hyoid bone
It helps to manipulate the tongue and helps aid in speaking and swallowing.
