Q

What are the two divisions of the skeletal system

A

Axial ( consists of the bones that form the head and trunk ( central part ( thoracic and abdomen ) of a vertebrate.)
Appendicular ( the upper and lower extremities, which include the shoulder girdle and pelvis )

Q

Fontanels/soft spots

A

gaps in the skull of babies during birth periods because they aren’t well fused together yet. Provide flexibility and help skull to shape and brain growth

16
Q

How many vertebrae does a child possess?

A

33 vertebrae, and as their bodies mature, the sacral and coccygeal fuse together

17
Q

Is the spine vertebrae line curved or straight? and what does it do?

A

it has 4 distinct curves and increases the carrying strength of the vertebral column and makes balance possible when standing up

18
Q

what do the joints between the vertebrae cushion?

A

The disks of cartilage between them, which helps with bending and twisting

19
Q

Because of the gravity, what happens to our vertebrae when we go to sleep?

A

Because of the pressure exerted on the vertebrae by gravity, we go to bed a few inches shorter than when we woke up in the morning. The cartilage disk recovers as we sleep but as we get older they lose their elasticity, therefore ex. a 80 year old men is shorter than he was in his younger days
