Skeletal articulations Flashcards
1
Q
What is an articulation
A
the point where two bones meet, (joints)
2
Q
What do joints have in between them
A
cartilage, and fibrous connective tissue, that are classified by the amount of tissue they allow
3
Q
what is a synarthrosis joint
A
Immovable ( not being able to move ), ex. connect different parts of the cranium
4
Q
Amphiarthrosis
A
Partially movable ex. pelvis bones
5
Q
Diarthrosis
A
freely movable ex. knee or shoulder
6
Q
How many types of diarthrosis joints are there
A
6 types
- Gliding joint ( slide across each other ex. carpals of the hand)
- hinge joint ( elbow )
- Pivot joint ( allows the head to rotate back and forth )
- ellipsoidal joint ( allows movement along or across two planes ex. fingers moving up and down and sideways)
- saddle joint ( base of the thumb, allows precise motions )
- Ball and socket joint ( freest of all, allow full rotation, ex hip, and shoulder sockets )
7
Q

Blood cells, transport oxygen throughout our body and fight diseases
8
Q
