A

Active: assisted by abdominal wall muscle contraction
–increases the abdominal cavity pressure pushing diaphragm up
Passive: Accomplished by muscle relaxation and the elastic recoil of the lungs

A

Vertical: increases as diaphragm contracts and lowers
Transverse: increases as ribs rise–bucket handle
AP Diameter: increases movement at costovertebral joint–pump handle
