Why does china say that Western countries are wrong to criticise the pollution there?
That they needed to get economic success just like us. Also the rest of the world had places where there are lot of pollution too. The population has tried to be cut down, therefore there would be less pollution, but that just caused upset.
What diseases can you get from the food, air and water?
You can get heart disease and lung cancer from the air. You can get stomach cancer and liver cancer from the water and food. The crops are contaminated, therefore the food is too. It can kill and asthma can become worse.
Why did China abandon many aspects of communism?
To become the most advanced and wealthiest even with the CCP still in control. Private ownership is now allowed.
Who runs China?
The Chinese Communist Party.
What did the CCP used to control?
All property, goods, services, trade, industry, prices and wages were all CCP controlled. All profits went to the government and no one could own their own business, industry or produce their own goods. The state owned everything and it was up to the government to decide how all the money was spent and raised.
How in recent years has China become more capitalist?
Businesses now compete with each other and private ownership is now allowed. Workers are now free to earn as much as they want and receive different wages. In addition to this, they can now spend their money on whatever they want.
What is the government’s attitude to this more modern way of living?
The government tries not to interfere too much.
What two jobs do the majority of Chinese people do?
Many people sell what they have grown at markets and some people work in big Western companies based in Chinese cities.
Do you think that the government still have tight control, despite these improvements?
Yes - cyber police, CCP, human rights abused, only two children, executions still take place, no criticism of the government.
