What is the issue with rights in China?
Some rights are given, whilst others are ignored
What is particularly tightly controlled in China?
The press is tightly regulated and so is religion.
What is blocked in China?
There is major censorship in social media and the internet. Any phrases or websites that the CCP think are subversive are blocked - “democracy” or “freedom”.
What are “human rights”?
Every person is entitled to certain fundamental rights simply by the fact of being human. These are called “human rights” and they are more than a privilege (that can be taken away at someone’s whim).
What has China done that makes it even worse that rights are ignored?
They have signed the Declaration of Human Rights but there is no freedom or speech, limited movement, no right to protest.
Why are most political rights taken away?
The CCP do not want to be overthrown, they want to stay in power.
Why do some Chinese continue to protest even though they may be tortured, executed or imprisoned?
They feel strongly about having access to their human rights and the are desperate for change.
