Q

What are the clinical features of a severed sciatic nerve in the upper thigh? (Prompt: what does the sciatic nerve supply distal to this point)

A

Motor:

  • All ankle and toe movements (flex, extend, inversion, eversion) are lost

Sensory:

  • Most of lower leg and foot sensation is lost, including sole of foot, dorsum of foot, lateral leg and mallelus (but not medial leg and malleolus - this is supplied by femoral nerve - saphenous branch)

(bold to pass)
